The reporter learned from the China National Railway Group Co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as the State Railway Group) that the launch ceremony of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project was held in Jalalabad, Kyrgyzstan, at 12 o 'clock local time on the 27th (14 o 'clock Beijing time on the 27th), marking significant progress in the preliminary work of the project and laying a solid foundation for the early start of construction of the project. The relevant person in charge of China National Railway Group introduced that the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is a landmark project of the cooperation of the Belt and Road jointly promoted by the heads of state of China and Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan personally, and is a strategic project of the interconnection between China and Central Asia. The project starts in Kashgar, Xinjiang, China, and enters Kyrgyzstan via the Turkah Pass, then goes west through the Kyrgyz border city of Jalalabad, and ends in the eastern Uzbek city of Andijan. The three parties agreed that the Chinese side will be responsible for the construction of the section in China, the Uzbek side for the upgrading of the section in Uzbekistan, and the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Company Limited, a joint venture authorized by the three governments, will be responsible for the financing, construction and operation of the section in Kyrgyzstan. The person in charge introduced that since the signing of the intergovernmental agreement between China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, the government departments and enterprises of the three countries have actively promoted the preliminary work of the project and achieved a series of phased results. According to the feasibility study report that has been approved, the section in Kyrgyzstan is a single-track railway, using diesel locomotive traction (reserved for electrification conditions), with a design speed of 120 km/h, and 20 stations including Turkah port station, Makmal loading station and Jalalabad Port station. According to the progress of the current work, the project is planned to officially start construction in July 2025, and the construction period is 6 years. The person in charge said that in the next step, the National Railway Group will earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the three countries, give full play to the main role of the project implementation of the China-Kyrgyz-Uzbekistan Railway Co., LTD., accelerate the work of construction drawing design, environmental assessment, land acquisition and demolition, and promote the project to start construction as planned. Once completed, the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway will become a strategic corridor benefiting the three countries and their peoples and boosting regional economic and social development, which will be of great significance to promoting infrastructure connectivity and economic and trade exchanges among countries along the route and promoting high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
